Maths Curriculum

NCETM Curriculum Prioritisation Curriculum Map

Since September 2022, the West Exmoor Federation has been using the NCETM curriculum prioritisation document to inform maths planning, drawing on our use of the DFE document 'Ready to Progress' which was implemented as part of the school's' Covid catch-up plan'.  It draws together the DfE guidance on curriculum prioritisation, with the high-quality professional development and classroom resources provided by the NCETM Primary Mastery PD materials.

Far from being an 'off the peg' maths scheme, this framework allows teachers to tailor teaching to the needs of the learner. Alongside the planning framework, staff have access to detailed documents and videos on the NCETM website which offer in-depth CPD on each maths objective.

This resource provides coherent sequencing for the primary maths curriculum. This means that at the WEF we have a progressive curriculum with consistent language, representations and calculation strategies from EYFS to KS2.

This image shows you the weighting for each unit. The top row is Year 1 and the bottom row is Year 6. You can see that in the earlier years, we spend a lot of time on Numbers, Place Value, Addition and Subtraction

Teaching mixed-aged classes, parents and carers regularly asked how we differentiate between the year groups. One of the tools we use to inform our teaching is the progression grids below. These show the progression of skills that are introduced year on year.
